Macbook Late 2007 backlight problem

Hi, i have a late 2007 MacBook (3,1) whose display suddenly stopped working. In particular the display works but not the backlight, in fact if i point a lamp in from of it, i can see the interface showing up. However even at maximum brightness it's completely dark.

What could the problem be? Can i solve this at home?

Thanks

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

Inverter cable failures in those older Macbooks is very common https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Core+2+Duo+Inverter+Cable+Replacement/4772

It could also be the inverter board iteslf https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Core+2+Duo+Inverter+Replacement/1497

Both are difficult repairs for a DIY'r and should be left to professionals. The Apple Store will no longer service your Macbook as they consider it obsolete Vintage and obsolete products - Apple Support

You can still get service at an AASP or a third party repair shop but the question becomes is it worth it?
